While the world around us presents a myriad of problems whose solutions are complex and extremely difficult to tease out, the world of art offers me an opportunity to set boundaries around a problem and solve it.
Regardless of the medium, my work is a constant struggle to resolve the challenge of composition in as many different ways as possible. By limiting the scope of the problem (e.g., defining a medium, determining a process, picking a canvas size) I reduce it to a series of steps or instructions necessary to reach a solution. Upon reaching one solution I seek to define the entire set, working through the problem in increasing iterations.
The end result is bodies of work in divergent mediums that naturally organize themselves in series. One can trace the process of exploration and problem-solving by arranging the work in a given series chronologically.
